Man, this was one hefty file to upload!

These are photos taken to show the design of the henna pattern I put on my housemate the other day. For those who don't know, this is done using a paste (which is still on in these shots), which will dry and crumble off after a couple of hours, to leave a brown stain that should last 1-2 weeks depending on the brand.

Design: by me, partly inspired from ~arcanoide
Application: me
Hand and arm belong to: my housemate

The result of this is that I'm now booked solid for applying henna patterns until next year by everyone in my house and in my medical school!! :O I usually do it for organised events, but this, I swear, is sheer exploitation!

Feel free to use the design -- there's nothing wildly original about it -- but be creative ;) My housemate has a tiny hand -- if you try doing it just like I did, it won't work.

You did this yourself?! Wonderful pattern! So delicate and full of precision! It looks like a beautiful glove. I love it :)

I, er, did, and not wanting to sound too conceited, it isn't my best ^^; I'm not used to putting henna on others, and moreover my housemate has a tiny hand, bless her -- especially compared to my own massive hand. So there were a few organisational errors when I worked this out ^^;

Plus we were discussing music and laughing our heads off:D Although that's better than the last time I did a session for a charity event, when the people I was doing it on were laughing at a film plus eating.

Thanks for the comment -- if you were around, I honestly wouldn't have minded doing one like this for you ;)

Jesus christ!
I had a henna tattoo kit one time,
but as it turns out I wasn't very good
with making pretty patterns. then again I
was 14. Either way...GORGEOUS.

Thanks for the comment! Well, I'm not that good either, to be honest -- I've not been doing this for very long, and this is my first time doing somebody else's hand, although I've done arms before :)

What would you get in the henna kit? I'd advise you to just buy the tube (it's usually quite cheap) and practise -- it doesn't require anything except experience ;) My friends back home in Mauritius started when they were about six-ish; they're damn fast at it! But then they've done it millions of times. In the beginning, it looks pretty meh for everyone -- I know mine did  This style is easy to master -- feel free to try it out when you have the henna. The only thing that's hard to do is the circular bits with the straight lines radiating out -- I'd say that would be hard for a beginner. But there are also designs out there on the internet. :) And start simple -- don't try to get it all the way around the arm on your first tries, it's too damn painful!

thanks for the tips!
the kit had some sort of powder, I think, that you had to mix. Can't really remember, it was a long time ago. I just know it didn't stain very well! Yea, I see what you mean, it would take a lot of patience!
Thanks again, you're very helpful!

That sounds really complicated to me! You should be able to get it already in a ready-made paste in a tube -- don't know where in the States, but in the UK I know they have it in the asian stores... And it's pretty easy to use the tube -- although yeah, some brands don't really stain properly. Most henna paste nowadays is more synthetic than natural. I guess yours must have been closer to the real thing, though -- I know my mum uses henna powder to make the paste for her hair :)

Yea, I know a place about an hour from
here that has it, but I don't go there often so
I might have to ask a friend to bring me some!

wooooooow its beautifull

Thanks! :blushes: It's not my best, but it's my first time doing someone else's hand, so it's the only one I can upload. (Yes, my hand and arm are private property )
